Ryan Giggs : we need the whole of Old Trafford behind us

Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs has called on teammates to reclaim the spirit of their 7-1 triumph over Roma.
As in their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, they had returned from the first leg away from home 2-1 down and staring at a last-eight exit.
What Giggs and his team-mates then produced has gone down in United and Champions League legend as they wiped the floor with Roma 7-1 in the return.
Giggs said: “Trying to achieve that same atmosphere is what we want to do. It just shows what can come if you play well. The crowd get behind you, you’re keeping the ball and you’re constantly attacking. We’ve seen so many great nights and hopefully this can be another one. There is no better feeling than a big night in Europe against the likes of Bayern Munich, with the whole of Old Trafford behind you. It’s up to the players to get tackles in and the shots off and hopefully we can get the result we need.”
That Roma second-leg victory was, however, the only time the Red Devils have overturned a first-leg deficit in the competition, failing on five other occasions.
Ferguson too remembers that glorious night with great joy. He said: “It’s a performance you hope to see every week – but you don’t. t’s a once-in-a-lifetime performance and the 7-1 scoreline shows that. I think Roma are equal to Bayern in terms of ability. They had some very good players, like Totti, Rossi, Chivu.” Continue reading

Beckham : United will keep pushing until the final whistle

David Beckham has warned AC Milan teammates that Manchester United’s players are “natural born winners”.
Beckham claims United will test Milan again tomorrow and has warned his team-mates that the Reds will keep pushing until the final whistle.
“It doesn’t matter whether there is half the game left or two minutes left, United players are born and brought up to believe they can win even with a minute left,” he said. They have that mentality, which makes it extremely hard for anyone to beat them. “Nobody comes to Old Trafford and gets given gifts. We’re going to have to work hard and play well if we’re to have a chance.” Continue reading
