Sunderland sign a three-year contract with Kieran Richardson

The 25-year-old former Manchester United midfielder Kieran Richardson has signed a three-year contract with Sunderland which will see him remain on Wearside until summer 2013.

Kieran Richardson has played 85 games for the Black Cats till date, scoring a total of 8 goals, all in Barclays Premier League.

Richardson, was also thought to be a target for Everton and Middlesbrough but Sunderland’s manager Roy Keane was able to sign-up a contract with Richardson as Keane said “I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Kieran to Sunderland,”

“Having worked with him in the past I’m well aware of what a good player and a good lad he is. He’s ready for a fresh challenge and hopefully Sunderland will provide that for him.”

Kieran Richardson, who is expected to be a part of the playing squad in Sunderland’s friendly match against Darlington on Wednesday, described the move as “exciting”.

He added “I know all about Roy Keane and I’m looking forward to playing for his team. Sunderland is a big club and it’s a great move for me.”
