Grandparents get in on the baseball and softball act

Batting Helmets or how grandpa and grandma buy softball and baseball equipment for the grandkids.

Each summer our grandchildren come to visit with us.  It’s a very exciting time for my family.  Our thirteen year old grand son plays on a baseball team and our nine year old granddaughter is beginning to play softball.  My wife and I enjoy visiting the playing diamonds and observing the children play.  We seek to support our single parent daughter out by buying our grandchildren’s softball and baseball equipment for them.  This year the emphasis was about softball sports equipment due to the fact our softball granddaughter was only starting.

We had some softball and baseball gear already.  Over time we’ve got a hold of our fair share of baseball and softball bats.  Judy and I usually like to buy the grand son a brand new baseball bat each year.  In this way he can take the older baseball bats back home and train there.  He has likewise gone through or misplaced his fair share of baseball helmets.  I am not sure exactly what he does to or with those helmets baseball, I’m scared to enquire.

This season both of them new batting helmets for baseball. and softball.   I hoped both hitting helmets can last for the league season.  Regarding baseball & softball bats, we had to get a range.  Our granddaughter required one of a different sort of size then her sibling.  My wife believed she actually needed a softball bat specifically made for the sport.  I attempted to describe to her that baseball & softball bats are identical, she said no.  She is confident that softball bats are very different.  My daughter and granddaughter believe all softball sports equipment is different from baseball equipment too.  I needed to rely on my grandson which helped me to get my item across about softball sports equipment. I think the boys in this case are not right on the topic of beginner baseball and softball bats.  I later on discovered that mainly baseball and softball bats for older ages vary very much.

So we searched for all sorts of competitive softball gear.  First we bought the softball bats.  After that we chose our softball batting helmet.  It is very important to select softball batting helmets that fit correctly.  Our grandson is actually a left handed batter so his batting helmet for baseball include the right earflap.  Sometimes he catches so he also got the 2 earflap catcher’s helmet.  Our granddaughter hits righthanded so her softball batting helmets include the left earflap.  Of course the girl looks up to her older brother so she had to play catcher.  Our daughter had already warned us.  She had to buy a catchers helmet also.

The way it ended up our granddaughter actually preferred being softball catcher.  Not simply did we get her the catchers helmet,  we got her softball protective gear too.  In addition to the catchers helmet, softball protective gear has a mask, catcher’s mitt, shin guards and chest protection.  I believed her softball catcher’s equipment would be extremely costly, but the additional items were not much more compared to the catchers mitt.  In the end we didn’t break our budget this year.  In spite of the new baseball softball bats, the new helmets for baseball, the new softball batting helmets and the catchers helmets for each child, we stayed within our spending budget.  We also were able to sell off a few of our grandson’s older helmets for baseball and their second-hand baseball & softball bats.  Which helped.

It’s exciting for us to take part in our grandchildren’s athletics.  I  think it has actually helped us be closer for many years.  We look forward for their baseball & softball seasons along with the time we all spend with each other out there on the fields.  I’m so relieved our granddaughter enjoyed her initial season of softball.  We are looking towards our summertime tradition going on for a long time.  (546)
